Swedish Management Institute Programme For Africa

Swedish Management Institute Programme For Africa. The programme, spread over seven months, comprises three weeks of intensive training divided into an introductory kick-off at the Swedish Embassy in each country, a two week module in Sweden and a concluding five day module in Africa.


Basic Criteria
  • Candidate must be citizen of Ethiopia, Tanzania, Kenya, Rwanda or Zambia and be a resident of one of the selected countries
  • Should preferably be working for a local organization/company or running their own enterprise in of one of the selected countries*
  • Should be in a position to drive decisions and formulate strategies for the business – mid or senior level management
  • Interested in finding new, innovative ways to integrate social, environmental and ethical concerns into their core business models
Chief Character Criteria
  • Candidate must be fluent in spoken and written English
  • The advisable age of the candidate should be between 25 – 45 years*
  • Flexible and open minded
  • Ambitious
  • High level of integrity
  • Ambitious and progressive
  • Internationally oriented
* The Swedish Institute has the right to be flexible by taking a decision of choosing a candidate from a non-local company and any age

The application portal is currently open. The deadline for submitting your application is January 24th, 2016. Please note that only applicants who have submitted a complete application before the deadline of January 24th will be considered for the programme.

After you pressed submit on the online application, please download the PDF copy of the form you have filled in (this contains your unique application number). To be part of the process, please make sure to send us this form.
Send documents
Send a print out of your online application form along with your CV, motivational essay with the title “Why sustainable business and responsible leadership are interesting focus areas for me, my company and my country” (400-600 words) and three references to Write your name and country in the e-mail’s subject line. Deadline for submitting the application is
January 24th, 2016 *
Interview phase
Qualified candidates who fit the profile will be called for an interview in February-March 2016
Final selection
to be communicated by the mid-April 2016
The programme is free of charge and costs related to accommodation, food* and transport while in Sweden is covered by the Swedish Institute. For module 1, flight tickets to and from Sweden is also covered by the Swedish Institute.
Module 2 will take place in one of the selected countries in Africa and each participant is responsible for arranging and paying for their own air travel to the location of the second module.
Participants are also responsible for arranging and covering the cost for their visa to Sweden, as well as costs related to transport within their own countries.
*There might be maximum 2-3 occasions where the participant would have to cover for their own meal.

*Please note that we may contact the reference persons of the applicants who are selected for an interview. We only need the contact details of the references (name, job title, telephone number and email), i.e. no letters of recommendation.
